Dutchess County Legislature

Hours extended for liquor and wine stores

You can buy wine a little later at shops that want to open later, thanks to Legislator Frits Zernike and Democratic caucus members who sponsored a “home rule” request to allow liquor stores the option to stay open till 9 pm.

Before the new law went into effect, Dutchess county’s 7 pm mandatory closing time was the earliest and most restrictive in the state.  [The legislature passed the law and overrode a veto by the County Executive in May.] The state liquor authority agreed to the change on Jan. 15.
